The mellow sand bar in Sayulita’s main beach is an ideal surf break for beginner surf lessons, while the left and right point breaks have more to offer experienced surfers. Beginner surfers will be standing and riding waves by the end of the beginner surf lesson, while more experienced guests will improve their existing surfing abilities.

The total duration varies by location and departure point. The time listed includes check-in and waiver, equipment setup and board selection, land lesson and surf theory, time in the water, and (when applicable) transportation or the walk to and from the beach.

Do I need prior experience to surf?

No prior experience is required. The majority of guests are first-timers. Certified instructors teach in small groups (max 4 people per instructor). Sayulita's main beach and its point breaks offer waves suited to catching a first ride, and lessons cover the pop-up through ocean reading.

Can surf lessons be tailored to intermediate surfers?

Yes. WildMex collects details on age, height, weight, and surfing experience to place guests appropriately according to their skill level. Intermediate surfers work on turns, wave selection and positioning rather than the basics at Sayulita's left and right point breaks.

What is included in a surf lesson?

Every lesson includes surfboard and leash, rash guard (wetsuit in winter), ISA-certified coaching, and access to Sayulita's main beach break. Lessons run in small groups with a maximum of 4 students per instructor.

What should I bring to my surf lesson?

Swimsuit, towel, reef-safe sunscreen, and a bottle of water. We provide boards, rash guards, and all safety gear. WildMex is steps from Sayulita's main beach — leave valuables at the shop, storage is available at check-in.

Are surf lessons safe for kids?

Lessons for children ages 5–10 run with a 2:1 student-to-instructor ratio. Kids train in the shallows of Sayulita's main beach where the sandbar creates small, broken waves. Basic swimming ability is required for all students, including children.

What happens if the surf conditions are not suitable?

Instructors check the swell, wind and tide before every session. If conditions at Sayulita are not suitable for the group level, the lesson is moved to a sheltered break within the same area (Punta Mita or San Pancho), or rescheduled for the next available time slot at no extra cost.

What is the cancellation or rescheduling policy for lessons?

Lessons can be cancelled or rescheduled free of charge up to 14 days before the booking date. Inside 14 days, the deposit converts into credit for a future lesson. Same-day cancellations due to illness or injury are handled case by case by the WildMex team.

When do surf lessons begin if I arrive in the evening?

Lessons are scheduled to begin the day after arrival, so guests have time to settle in and complete check-in. Morning sessions depart at 8:00 AM from Sayulita, 8:30 AM from Punta Mita, and 7:45 AM from San Pancho.

What should I do if the Stripe payment link does not work?

Contact the WildMex team by email or WhatsApp. A new payment link will be generated and sent to the same email address used for the booking. If the issue persists, the team can process the payment over the phone or in person at any of the three headquarters.
