1. PACK Plenty’o water!

The best hikes in San Pancho are with WildmexWhether you’re taking on one of the best hikes in San Pancho or exploring some of the exquisite hiking trails in Punta Mita, when it comes to calculating your water consumption -always, pack, more!

When you already think you have enough, pack another!

Having enough water with you during your hike in Sayulita and the surrounding areas is fundamental if you want to keep that energy high and avoid any dehydration episodes. (You may think this could never happen to you but you’d be surprised how many people get caught out!)

From hiking intensity to temperature and climate, your water levels will differ, so take all of these into consideration before your hike and plan accordingly!

Everyone’s water needs will vary depending on their body weight however, generally, you should aim to drink around 1 litre for every two hours of hiking.

To change things up, consider alternating between plain water and a sports drink with electrolytes such as Powerade!

2. STAY POSITIVE

Hikes in Punta Mita & Sayulita with WildmexWildmex hikes in Punta Mita & Sayulita are all about rolling with the good vibes!

BUT, we’ve all been there…You reach that uphill climb on your way to San Pancho and you just don’t think you can make it anymore! You have that negative chitter-chatter in your mind that’s telling you you can’t do it and well, all the fun is gone!

Having a positive mental attitude is probably the most important trait for completing a hike and enjoying it!

Learning how to smile when times get tough really is a game-changing ability!

So, when rough moments roll through, always remember – the most difficult situations are always just temporary and well, it could be worse… you could be sitting behind an office desk, with a 10-page assignment due the next day!

3. FOOT FOCUS

Hiking Monkey Mountain in Sayulita Foot focus means taking super duper care of your fabulous feet – after all, they are your vehicle to victory!

Surfing In La Lancha Continues As Usual! Bridge Building By Wildmex

La Lancha beach access path gets bridges for the Rainy Season

Surfing In La Lancha Continues As Usual! Bridge Building By WildmexRainy season is here in Sayulita and Punta Mita! But does that stop the wave-hungry surfers and surfistas and our adventure-devoted team at Wildmex from surfing La Lancha? Hell noppp!

Whatever the weather, our Wildmex team will always find a way to overcome these little hiccups in life, (especially when the waves are waiting for us on the other side!)

For those of you that don’t know, in general, there are two main seasons in the Riviera Nayarit – the rainy season, which runs from June through to mid-October and the dry season which runs from mid-October through to June.

Surf Lessons in Punta Mita with WildmexHowever, even in the rainy season, the rain normally falls in short bursts, most often at night or in the late afternoon, with most days being hot and dry, leaving most of the day free for outdoor activities such as stand up paddleboarding in Punta Mita and surfing in La Lancha!

However, for those of you that do know the area, you’ll be fully aware that Sayulita and Punta Mita’s locations on the Central Pacific coast of Mexico are hemmed in by luscious jungle wilderness, giving it that subtropical climate. So, when the rainstorms do come in heavy downpours, our wild tropical trails to our surf beaches become, well, even wilder!

Surfing In La Lancha Continues As Usual! Bridge Building By Wildmex

After winning back public access to La Lancha beach, a long-favourite surf break in the area for locals and tourists in 2016, Wildmex are, as always, 100% committed to serving its community of adventure-seekers and nature-lovers, and want to continue to see the coastal communities and tourists alike, enjoy the beaches, surf, nature and wildlife this paradise has to offer with ease.

Surfing In Punta Mita Continues As Usual! Bridge Building By WildmexSo, as authorized by Profepa and in conjunction with Punta MITA, Wildmex took quick action last week by building temporary bridges and trail crossings, allowing the community to continue their daily adventure activities as per usual! Meaning surf lessons in La Lancha, surfboard rental in Punta Mita and stand up paddle boarding in Punta Mita have continued as normal.

These trail crossings built by our on-the-ball team, cover the 10-minute jungle stretch and sole beach access to La Lancha’s famous surfing beach boasting multiple left-hand and right-hand breaks.

This is what Javier Chavez Wildmex’s CEO and founder had to say about the bridge building venture “_This is the beginning of a project that will better the access to La Lancha Beach for Surfers and all visitors, making getting to the beach safer, more enjoyable and reduce the impact on the surrounding environment. We ask all visitors to be really respectful of nature, wildlife, and all other beach users_”.

Surf Lessons in La Lancha Continue As Usual! Bridge Building By WildmexWe are on a mission and that mission is catching waves, exercising the mind, being one with nature and hanging tight with our coastal crew, so with that in mind, nothing can stop us…

It’s all in a day’s work for our Wildmex team!

Crocodile on the beach, ecosystem in La Lancha
By Wildmex

Ecosystems in La Lancha, Nayarit

Cocodriles and Mangrove

Mangrove swamps, Ecosystems in La LanchaMangrove swamps are unique ecological communities that link freshwater and oceanic ecosystems and host a rich diversity of animal species. A mangrove commonly refers to two different things: a tidal swamp ecosystem found in tropical deltas, estuaries, lagoons or islands, and the characteristic tree species populating this ecosystem (with roots that have a complex salt filtration system and ability to adapt to harsh conditions). Its purpose (in the Ecosystems in La Lancha beach for example) is to filter, protect, and maintain the quality of its natural habitat.

In Mexico, there are four types of mangroves depending on their root systems and functions: Red, White, Black, and Zaragoza o Botoncillo, of which some tolerate up to 70ups. Each one provides different natural and commercial resources.

Mangroves develop important ecosystem functions. Perhaps the most important role of mangroves is that they protect vulnerable coastlines from flooding. They hold soil together and prevent coastal erosion as well as shield inland areas during storms to minimize destructive impact. They biologically filter the quality of water creating opportunity for diverse forms of wildlife (trees, fish nurseries, birds, and reptiles) to thrive. Mangroves also are studied and known to break down pollutants and play a large role in the capturing and storing of carbon.

Crocodile on the beachMexico is divided into 5 regions where mangroves can be found: the North Pacific, Central Pacific, South Pacific, Gulf of Mexico, and the Yucatán Peninsula. The state of Jalisco located on the Central Pacific coast has had the greatest loss of mangroves with 8,098ha from 1970-1980 to 2,201ha by 2010, thus losing more than 70% of its territory.

In Banderas Nayarit Bay, there is an important extension of these mangroves located in front of our office in Punta de Mita leading to a special virgin beach “La Lancha”. Standing out in their size and beauty, these tropical trees house impressive exotic plant and animal life. Crocodiles, a common species found inhabiting this region, have lived here many years before this land was discovered. This is contrary to the idea that crocodiles were introduced to this area. Crocodiles utilize this area for all aspects of their life cycle including feeding, breeding, and rearing young.

Our friends from the Sanctuary of Crocodiles ‘El Cora’WildMex is an adventure company that cares about nature and the life it creates and sustains. Nature is our home and we take various actions to raise awareness of the care and responsibility necessary to protect it. It is our partnership to these ecosystems that allow us to enjoy and share its energy and purpose. WildMex ExcursionOn Thursday, August 15th 2019, a collaboration took place with friends from the Sanctuary of Crocodiles ‘El Cora’ who explained the importance of mangroves, their functions and benefits of its diversity, as well as focusing on the facts and myths concerning crocodiles to be able to better understand them. After the discussion, a tour was given where people were able to have a greater and more personal experience with the mangrove and its unique plant and animal wildlife species.
